What territory are you on? In the spirit of respect and movement towards truth and reconciliation, we honour and acknowledge the Edmonton Area as Treaty 6 Territory; the traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Blackfoot, Plains Cree, Tsuu T’ina, Metis and Cree people. Together, we work towards truth and reconciliation through support and action. We have supported Indigenous businesses and artists, with 100% proceeds going back to the indigenous people or charity. We will always make space to support, educate, and uplift indigenous culture and people.

Why did you call yourself The Moth? Once upon a time there was a little cafe that lit up a corner from the inside out. Curious and strangely attracted, the moths soon came. They feasted, laughed and loved. But little did they know an impending end of the cafe is near.

Diversity is welcome. Earth would be devastatingly boring and unsustainable if we were all the same. We see beauty in all shapes, sizes, age, colour, and gifts.

What to expect when dining at The Moth. We are a small family-owned establishment; casual and unscripted, we make most of our food and drinks in-house or locally sourced. Most of our staff are new to the restaurant industry. We take pride in our food and drinks, and do our best to make feel-good decisions that help minimize waste, and encourage compassion and love. Because we are a small business working in difficult times where food prices and rent are sky high, and the economy is far from recovery, we do not have the luxury of overstaffing and taking back food for no other reason than “I don’t like it”.

Bring your own containers. During the pandemic, we got a glimpse of the consumption and disposal of the take-out world. As a way to minimize waste in this industry, we stopped using third-party delivery services and encouraged our customers to bring their own container for take-out and left overs. Otherwise, we charge $1.00 per box. Making less waste is something we are also striving to learn, do, and be consistent at in our own personal lives. Join us?

Online reservations. We offer online reservations though OPEN TABLE. As we are a small establishment, reservations must be done at least a day prior. For large parties of 7 or more, please call us at 780.244.9702 to make your reservation. Online reservations can be made through our site, instagram, Facebook, and Google.

Giftcards? Gift cards can be purchased online on our website and instagram @themothcafe.com

Do you hold community events? In the past, we’ve collaborated with many ambitious social entrepreneurs and hosted several events from Craft Workshops, Plant Swap, Poetry Nights, and Vinyl Brunches. If you are interested in organizing an event at The Moth, please email Khu at khu@themothcafe.com.

Donations. It goes without saying that Edmonton has a strong undercurrent of every possible non-profit organizations, charities, fundraising event you can think of. Edmontonians have big hearts and the drive to back it up. For those looking for donations, you are welcome to email us but please respect our time and space. In the past, we supported Boyle Street Community, e4c, Bent Arrow, and SNIWWOC.
